New Years Resolutions

As we begin the New Year, Brother Danny reminds us of the history of the New Year’s Resolution, and helps us to understand that this is a good time to resolve to do some things in our spiritual lives, with God’s help.

What Do We Celebrate

On the day we light the Christ Candle, Brother Danny reminds us of four essential truths about what we should be celebrating at Christmastime. First, that this is a celebration of the eternal Word of God. Second, we are celebrating the Light that conquers darkness. Third, we celebrate the gift that brings us into the family of God. And, finally, we celebrate the fullness of God made flesh.

An Amazing Love

On the fourth Sunday of Advent, Brother Danny shares with us the amazing nature of God’s love toward His people. In the first chapter of Matthew, we see the story of Jesus’ birth, from the prespective of Joseph. Matthew shows us the love that Joseph and Mary had for God, the love that Joseph had for Mary, and the love that caused God to send his son for his people.

Joy Regardless of Circumstance

Using the text of Mary’s song of praise and worship, The Magnificat, Bill helps us to understand that the joy that we celebrate at Advent is not something that can be stolen from us. Rather, we fail to live in that joy when we surrender to the troubles, trials, and tribulations of this world. Let us remember that the joy in our lives is one of the ways we are to shine the light of Jesus Christ to a world that is dark and hopeless.

A Chance for Peace

As we look at Isaiah chapter 11, Brother Bill talks to us about the importance of living out our lives in realization of the peace that we have through Jesus Christ. When Jesus returns, there will be peace in creation that we cannot comprehend. The shoot that arises from the stump of Jesse will bring peace through knowlede of Him.

Living in the Hope of His Return

As we celebrate the first week of the Advent Season, Brother Danny reminds us to look forward in the hope of Jesus’ return. Using the text from Romans 13, Danny reminds the church that time is running out for us to wake from our restful slumber of complacency and our predilection towards the ways of darkness. To try to walk the line between the world of darkness and the kingdom of God is not right, nor is it safe. Rather, it is time to be fully clothed in the righteousness of Jesus as we await his return in a spirit of Hope.

Thanks for an Adverb

The Gospel message cannot be hindered by those who stand against it. It is a triumphant Gospel that is welcomed by those who are drawn to it; it is a message that goes into the world with boldness, when God’s people are obedient to his call. Paul demonstrated this throughout his ministry, even when he was on house arrest in Rome, awaiting his trial before Caesar.

In the Face of Bias

Paul demonstrates how Christians can be ready witnesses, even in the face of great bias against our message. – Please note, there is a break in the audio at 14 minutes, 20 second, sue to a microphone failure.

When Nothing Seems to Help

On Paul’s final visit to Jerusalem, everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. From bad advice on how to correct wrong perceptions, to a misunderstanding and a mob mentality, Paul could have been understandibly bitter with the results of this disastrous visit. However, he kept the right perspective, that God can use bad situations, caused by bad information, and acted upon by bad people, to spur us to deeper commitment.

An Amazing Service

Every time we participate in the Lord’s Supper, we should remember that this special time of remembrance is a symbol of the love of Jesus. We should also celebrate the truth of His return. Finally, we should treat this as something special because we come together with the church, not just of today, but with the church throughout time, when we observe this ordinance.
